Curriculum

Working with specially trained improvisational skills instructors and famous guest lecturers over the course of a semester, students are introduced to the fundamentals of communication through a foundation in improvisation. Students participate in exercises that require them to listen to the input of others before forming their responses and to think on their feet before adding to the dialog.

In addition to the critical thinking, public speaking and team building skills developed through group activities, students are asked to write and perform in their own skits based on observations in school, at home and in the world around them. Through the exercises and activities we have designed, the students have an opportunity to build self-confidence and strengthen their communication skills. Students learn to sharpen their listening and observational skills, increase their processing speed, strengthen their memory, and to expand their creativity. They learn to take risks and think outside of the box which in turn helps to improve academic perform in more structured settings.

Support

With the current economic climate the city and state budgets are tighter than ever -- especially for education, which is often over-looked by the administration. In order to make this program a reality we’ll need your support to help offset the costs of teaching and materials.

We are asking for donations so that we can bring this wonderful program and all its benefits to public school students throughout the city and beyond. Supporting educational initiatives is not a handout but an investment in the future of our country and our world. It is our responsibility to equip our children with the skills they’ll need to inherit the world we leave them. Support for this program will help to give students greater listening skills, increased patience, analyzing ability, verbal and non-verbal communication skills all so that they will have the tools to participate in the global community.
